The original (and current) authors always loved games and the demoscene. As they were teenagers, they developed simple demos and a few unfinished games (Amdek racer, Barbarian, etc.). At that time there was only 8-bit Ataris and  MSX system based computers, so Z80A and 6502 assembly language was the only option.

After some years of reduced activity in this field, the rise of high performance CPU's and GPU's, together with a plataform independant graphics library such OpenGL (and T&L hardware), reopened a new spirit that seemingly they had lost.

UGS was firstly thought in January 2002, but it officially started in March 2002.
